Hello, my friends! Can you feel it? That crisp, clean Alaskan air is calling our names! I am just so incredibly excited to share this next chapter of our journey with you. As we look ahead to our May 2027 "Join Me in Alaska!" escorted tour, I’ve been thinking a lot about one specific part of the trip that truly takes my breath away every single time. It’s that magical transition where the rugged beauty of the Alaskan interior meets the vast, shimmering mystery of the sea. This unforgettable journey is personally escorted by Gina and Travis Rogers, and that caring, personal touch makes it even more special.
I’m talking, of course, about the journey from Anchorage to Seward. This isn’t just a "transfer" from one point to another; it is a centerpiece of our adventure! It’s where our land-based explorations culminate in the sheer excitement of boarding our beautiful Celebrity cruise ship.
If you’ve been dreaming of a trip that balances the thrill of discovery with the peace of a spiritual retreat, this is the one. We are going to see things that words simply cannot describe, but I’m going to try my best to give you a little taste right now!
The Gateway: Starting Our Story in Anchorage
Our adventure begins in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and a place that perfectly blends modern comforts with the wild frontier. Before we head south, we’ll have time to soak up the local culture. I always tell people that Anchorage has a "soul" you won't find anywhere else. There is such a sweet sense of anticipation in the air as our group gathers and gets ready for the next breathtaking stretch of the journey.
Anchorage serves as our home base before the "big move" to the coast. We’ll be staying 1 night in Anchorage at the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites, where we can kick back, relax, and prepare our hearts for the beauty to come. During our time here, we’ll enjoy a visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and take in the stunning scenery around Turnagain Pass, soaking up those majestic mountain views that make Alaska feel so unforgettable. I love starting here because it gives us all a chance to bond as a group. By the time we leave Anchorage, we aren't just travelers anymore: we are a community, a family of explorers ready to witness the majesty of God’s creation together.

The Most Scenic Route in America: Anchorage to Seward
Now, let’s talk about the journey itself. To get from Anchorage to Seward, we have two spectacular options, and honestly, you can’t go wrong with either!
The Seward Highway & Turnagain Arm
If we take the scenic drive, we’ll be traveling along the Seward Highway, which is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful drives in the entire world. We’ll wind along the Turnagain Arm, a waterway where the mountains seem to rise straight out of the sea.
Keep your cameras ready, because we’ll be stopping at places like Beluga Point. If we’re lucky, we might see the famous "bore tide": a literal wall of water that rushes into the inlet: or even spot some white Beluga whales surfacing in the distance! It’s moments like these that remind me how blessed we are to experience this vibrant world.
We also make sure to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. This is such a heart-touching stop where we can see bears, moose, and wood bison up close. These animals are being cared for and rehabilitated, and seeing them in such a majestic setting is truly unforgettable.
The Wilderness Express: A View Like No Other
For those of us who want to truly sit back and let the scenery come to us, the Alaska Railroad is an absolute dream. We’ll board the Wilderness Express, featuring those incredible glass-domed rail cars. Imagine sitting in a comfortable leather seat, looking up through a glass ceiling at snow-capped peaks, rushing waterfalls, and glaciers that look like blue diamonds tucked into the mountains.
The train takes a slightly different path than the highway, plunging deep into the Chugach National Forest where no cars can go. We’ll pass the Spencer Glacier and through mountain tunnels that feel like something out of an adventure movie! The narration on board will tell us all the stories of the land, making the history of Alaska come alive right before our eyes.

Arriving in Seward: The Land Meets the Sea
As we pull into Seward, the atmosphere shifts. You can smell the salt in the air and hear the distant calls of seagulls. Seward is a charming, historic fishing village nestled between Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Mountains. It feels intimate, welcoming, and purely Alaskan.
We’ll be staying 1 night in Seward at the Harbor360 Hotel, which sits right on the water. Looking out your window and seeing the fishing boats bobbing in the harbor while the sun sets over the mountains is a "pinch-me" moment. Seward is the gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park, and it serves as the perfect bridge between our land adventure and our sea voyage.
One of the unforgettable highlights here is the Kenai Fjords National Park Glacier and Wildlife Tour. Friends, this is the kind of experience that stays with you for a lifetime! We’ll cruise past rugged cliffs, watch for whales and sea otters, and witness glaciers shining in brilliant shades of blue. It’s a breathtaking way to experience Alaska’s wild beauty up close before we board the ship.
Then, before embarkation, we’ll have a little time to enjoy Seward’s peaceful waterfront charm. It’s a place where time seems to slow down just enough for us to breathe deep and appreciate the journey we’ve shared so far.
The Big Moment: Boarding the Celebrity Ship
This is it! This is the moment when our "land legs" prepare to become "sea legs." There is a specific kind of electricity in the air at the Seward cruise terminal. You see our beautiful Celebrity ship waiting there, majestic and white against the deep blue of the bay.
The transition from land to sea is handled with such care. We’ve spent the last several days trekking through forests and mountains, and now, we get to "check-in" to our floating resort. As we walk across that gangway, the Celebrity crew greets us with those warm smiles we love so much.
The excitement of finding your stateroom, meeting up with our group on the top deck for a "Sail Away" toast, and watching Seward shrink into the distance as we head toward the glaciers... I’m getting goosebumps just writing about it! This is where we transition from the rugged exploration of the land to the pampered relaxation of a world-class cruise. We’ve got you covered every step of the way, so all you have to do is immerse yourself in the experience.
Why This Trip? Why May 2027?
I chose this specific 15-day itinerary for our group because it offers the most comprehensive look at Alaska. We aren't just "seeing" Alaska; we are experiencing it from every angle. Starting with the land portion allows us to see the "Big Three": Fairbanks, Denali, and Anchorage: before we ever set foot on the ship.
By the time we reach Seward, we’ve already seen the heart of the interior. We’ve seen the mountains and the wildlife. Now, we get to see the glaciers from the water’s edge. It’s a complete story, a remarkable journey that builds in beauty and wonder every single day.
Traveling in May is also so special. The "Big Ice" is often at its most vibrant, the wildlife is waking up with their young, and the flowers are just starting to peek through. It feels like a season of new beginnings, which is so fitting for the cherished memories we’re going to create together.
We’re also so grateful for our partnership with Jerry at Cruise and Tour Supermarket, whose support helps make this remarkable Alaska experience even smoother for our group.
