Hello there, friends! Pull up a chair and grab a cup of coffee because I am just so excited to share some of the magic we have planned for our May 2027 "Join Me in Alaska!" adventure. If you’ve been following along, you know we’re doing things a little differently this time around. We are starting our journey on land first! Before we ever step foot on that beautiful cruise ship, we’re going to spend some time deep in the heart of the "Great Land," and let me tell you, there is nowhere more majestic than Denali National Park.
As a mother and a wife, I’ve always felt that travel isn’t just about the places you go, it’s about the memories you build and the ways your soul is refreshed by the beauty of God’s creation. Alaska has a way of doing that like nowhere else on Earth. It makes you feel small in the best way possible, reminding us of the vastness and the wonder of the world we’ve been given to explore together.
The "Great One" Beckons
The word "Denali" actually comes from the Koyukon Athabaskan language, meaning "The High One" or "The Great One." And believe me, it earns that name! Standing at over 20,310 feet, Mt. Denali is the tallest peak in North America. When you see it for the first time, especially in the crisp, clear air of May, it literally takes your breath away.
One of the reasons I love visiting in May is that the mountain is still draped in its winter whites, standing like a silent, snowy sentinel over the valley. Now, the mountain can be a bit shy! It creates its own weather system, and sometimes it likes to hide behind a blanket of clouds. But that’s all part of the adventure, isn’t it? When those clouds part and you see that massive, shimmering peak reflecting the sunlight... well, it’s a moment you’ll cherish forever. It’s a powerful reminder to just be still and witness the majesty.
A Wildlife Wonderland: The Big Five and Beyond
While the mountain is the star of the show, the residents of Denali are what really make the park feel alive. When we head out on our Tundra Wilderness Tour, I want everyone to have those binoculars ready! We aren't just looking for one or two animals; we are looking for the "Big Five": grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and the elusive wolf.
In May, the park is waking up from its long winter nap. It’s a time of new life! You might see a mama moose with her spindly-legged calf near the edge of the woods, or a grizzly bear digging for roots along the gravel bars of the Savage River.
The Grizzly Bears: Seeing a grizzly in the wild is an experience that stays with you. From the safety of our tour bus, we’ll watch these powerful creatures navigate the tundra. In May, they are often busy foraging, and seeing that thick, golden fur against the greening landscape is just stunning.
The Moose: These are the giants of the forest! They love the willow thickets near the park entrance. I always tell my groups to look for them in the early morning or late evening, that’s when they like to "chill" and grab a snack.
The Eagles: Look up! Bald eagles are frequently seen soaring above the riverbeds or perched high in the spruce trees. Seeing one spread its wings and glide over the wilderness is a symbol of the freedom and wild beauty that Alaska represents.
We’ve got you covered on these excursions! Our guides are experts at spotting movement in the distance that the rest of us might miss. It’s such a thrill when the bus slows down and everyone whispers, "There! Do you see him?" That shared excitement is exactly what makes our group trips so special.

Immersive Natural Beauty
There is a peace in Denali that you just can't find anywhere else. As we travel deeper into the park, the landscape changes from taiga forests of spruce and aspen to the wide-open, treeless tundra. It’s like being on another planet. The colors are so vibrant: deep greens, rusty oranges, and the bright blues of the glacial rivers.
We will be staying in Denali at Denali Park Village, giving us time to truly settle in and soak up the beauty of this breathtaking place. Our time here includes the Tundra Wilderness Tour, the exciting Denali Jeep Adventure, and the fun-filled Denali Cabin Nite Dinner and Show, so there is a beautiful mix of scenery, adventure, wildlife, and Alaska-style entertainment woven into our stay.
And getting here is part of the adventure too! We’ll travel aboard the magnificent Wilderness Express Domed Rail, where the views are absolutely unforgettable. Whether we are spotting wildlife deep in the park, heading out for a rugged Jeep experience, or enjoying a lively evening at the Denali Cabin Nite Dinner and Show, the goal is the same: to immerse ourselves in the raw, untouched beauty and unforgettable spirit of Denali. It’s the perfect place to breathe in that fresh, Alaskan air and thank God for the opportunity to see such wonders.
